"Stockholm on Lockdown As Police Officer Stabbed in Neck in City Square
A man was arrested for attempted murder in central Stockholm, the capital of Sweden Thursday morning after a police officer was stabbed in the neck while on patrol, the second attack against police in the city in a matter of hours.
The incident took place on the Medborgarplatsen on Södermalm, one of the Islands that makes up the historic center of the city and is known for containing a large number of older buildings.
A number of police patrols have been deployed to the city center, reports Swedish newspaper Expressen, and the city center including a local school was locked down.
It is reported the assailant snuck up behind the officer and cut his neck. While the officer was conscious and able to sit up on his own as the ambulance arrived, the extent of the injuries has not been revealed by Swedish authorities.
The attack comes just hours after Swedish police were the subject of another potentially deadly attack Thursday morning, again in Stockholm. Officers were called to a bogus burglar alarm in a suburb to the south of the city, and upon arriving instead of finding a householder in distress, their car was pelted with heavy stones from a 10th floor flat in a tower block."

"'Two punks' stealing TVs from Sears kill 81-year-old after violently shoving him
COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - An 81-year-old Richland County man trying to stop two men from stealing television sets from a Midlands department store was killed last Tuesday.
The two shoplifters will now be held accountable for his death after they shoved him violently to the ground, according to Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott.
According to Sheriff Leon Lott, Duaine Hamilton, 81, was working loss prevention at the Sears on Two Notch Road at 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 21 when he was assaulted by two men who were attempting to leave the store with the televisions.
"An 81-year-old man who was out here living life, enjoying the golden years of his life and it was just snatched from him by these two punks who want to go steal two TVs from Sears. And those two TVs were more important than Mr. Hamilton's life," Lott said.
Hamilton tried to stop the two men by standing in front of them but was shoved to the ground. Hamilton, Coroner Gary Watts said, was shoved so violently that his head hit the ground, causing injuries that led to his death.
"Think about this, this 81-year-old man and grandfather who by all rights should have been at home playing with his grandchildren was doing what he thought was the right thing and working," Watts said.
Hamilton was taken to the hospital where he later died.
To add insult, Lott said, the two men still walked out with the television sets.
"They just attacked him and still stole the TV's," Lott said.
One of the men, Jeffrey Alan Simmons, was arrested at his home on Ferrell Drive on Friday and charged with strong armed robbery and murder. The other, Jason Randolph, was apprehended Wednesday.
Both have lengthy criminal records. Lott said Simmons has 17 arrests for shoplifting, nine convictions.

"Woman ‘dragged away from pub and raped in garden’
A woman was attacked outside a pub, dragged into nearby gardens and raped, police said.
It happened around midnight on Sunday as she was leaving the Cotton Tree Pub in Greater Manchester.
She was approached by a man, who grabbed her and forced her across the road into gardens where he attacked her then ran away.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said officers were called to the area at around 1.30am shortly after the attack.
Police say the man was "Asian"(Which a codeword for "muslim pakistani"), aged 28 to 30, and around 5ft 10."

"Houston Police: Looters Are Targeting Firefighters, Officers
Houston firefighters came under gunfire from looters while conducting search and rescue operations Monday.
Houston police union officials told The Daily Caller News Foundation that a group of firefighters were targeted by looters while helping people escape the catastrophic flooding.
“We had firefighters out there helping people, and looters started firing on them,” Officer Joe Gamaldi told TheDCNF Tuesday morning. “We sent officers down there on a code 1 (which means as fast as you can) to assist, and they too came under fire.”

The incident occurred at the intersection of Tidwell and Mesa, just north of the downtown area.
Gamaldi said that no one was injured in the incident, which occurred Monday afternoon.
“This was absolutely the most despicable and disgusting thing that you could imagine,” Gamaldi said. “That our officers had to stop what they were doing, high water rescues and saving lives, to deal with looters firing at our officers and firefighters.”
He had a message to looters: “If you are caught, you will go to jail and there will be severe consequences.”
Montgomery County (a neighboring county to Houston) District Attorney Brett Ligon made it clear that looters would be jailed and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Ligon announced Monday that his office will seek prison or jail time in each and every forthcoming case where the defendant stands charged with theft (looting), burglary, robbery, or any similar crime committed during recovery efforts.
“Leniency and probation will be off the table for these offenses committed during this time,” Ligon said. State law allows for enhanced punishment for certain crimes committed during a declared natural disaster event.
Residents had a stark warning to potential looters, “You loot, We shoot.”"
