France saw a jump in arrests on New Year's Eve as well as an increase in the number of cars torched by vandals, a ritual among revellers in the country's high-rise suburbs.
The number of vehicles set alight on the night of December 31st climbed from 935 a year ago to 1,031, while arrests rose from 456 to 510, the interior ministry said on Monday.
Violence also marred celebrations in the Paris suburb of Champigny-sur-Marne, where two police officers were attacked by a large group of people at a party.
Some 140,000 security and emergency forces were deployed across France on New Year's Eve.
The country has been on alert following a wave of jihadist attacks that have killed 241 since 2015.

Authorities said the teenage girl died of her injuries after the 15-year-old boy stabbed her with a kitchen knife in Kandel, in southwestern Germany. The alleged perpetrator is an unaccompanied rapefugee from Afghanistan.
Authorities said the girl, also 15 years old, was stabbed following an apparently chance meeting with the boy at a drugstore on Wednesday. She died of her injuries after being attacked with a kitchen knife with a 20-centimeter blade.

However, let’s not forget that the radical scene is not an entertainment industry (although it looks like for many it is) but a meta-political project aimed not only at abstract artistic expression but first and foremost at direct engagement with reality by all means possible.
Quite often strong political convictions and militancy result in direct conflict with oppressive authorities, leading many brave souls to prison. Therefore it’s our duty to support all those who were put behind the bars fighting for our common cause.
That especially concerns labels, bands and event organizers. Playing music and making shows is all good but definitely not enough. Providing financial support to nationalists political prisoners is the very least each of us can do. With Asgardsrei fest contributing a part of revenues to help those in need in Ukraine and Russia we hope to set an example for other bands, labels and promoters on the radical scene."
