"'Migrants are destroying my land! Farmer blasts Jungle’ occupants for causing major damage
A DISTRAUGHT farmer says the migrant crisis has cost him tens of thousands of pounds because rampaging refugees have cut down his trees and burned his crops in a bid to force themselves into lorries headed for the UK.

Frenchman Xavier Foissey, who owns a plot of land bordering the A16 motorway – where violent clashes between migrants and riot police have become worryingly common - said the Jungle’s migrants have cost him 35,000 euros in damages alone.
The farmer called the migrant crisis a “nightmare” and said that migrants trespassed on his land and “destroyed it” in a bid to jump into UK-bound trucks.
"They would dump rubbish there, steal linseeds and wheat, and even cut down my trees, which they use to cross the irrigation canals separating my farm from the A16, and to build roadblocks.”

The migrants burn the stolen wheat and the linseeds to create thick smoke, which causes low visibility and forces lorries to stop in their tracks.
Migrants have cut down more than 40 of the farmer’s trees, including walnut and apple trees.
And he is not the only one to have been affected by all the looting and destroying: migrants have damaged the fields and crops of more than 20 local farmers.
Mr Foissey told Le Figaro newspaper: “My neighbour and I have lost 13 out of 80 hectares of arable land. "Between that and the loss of our trees and our crops, we’ve lost around 35,000 euros. And I’m not even counting the 27 hours I spent cleaning the rubbish-laden fields.”
Locals, he said, are at the end of their tether, and so are Calais-based farmers, policemen, shopkeepers, and truckers.

Locals, too, have been left feeling both angry and crushed.
The migrant population is getting bigger and more aggressive, said the farmer.
He said: “Between 50 and 100 migrants come to my farm every night, bar Saturday and Sunday. We no longer sleep. They come armed with sticks, machetes, and handsaws, which they use to cut down trees. "
