"Diversity was always viewed as a ‘liberal’ idea, yet as a society becomes more diverse it becomes less (so-called)liberal. Because the idea that all ethnic division can be eased out through a mixture of interaction and propaganda is optimistic, as it fails, the logical next stop is to force it by law. Therefore a diverse society requires a great deal more state intervention to maintain the peace and minimise conflict, often with laws that would have struck previous generations as decidedly illiberal."
