"Does anybody else find this disturbing? (Sex Robots)
Meet Harmony, a prototype of a love doll under construction at the offices of RealDoll, where creator Matt McMullen says he hopes to make a doll with enough artificial intelligence to move and talk. That feeling of creepiness will pass eventually.

These days, we've got all sorts of cool, high-tech toys to keep us informed, entertained and relaxed. We even have (or so I'm told) gizmos that can replace the presence of another person when we're feeling a little, shall we say, amorous.

One company wants to bring us closer to making those gadgets move and even sound more like actual people by building robotic sex dolls that can respond through body language and conversation. Finally! Our passwords will become safewords and vice versa.

Matt McMullen is credited with inventing the RealDoll, a life-size, customizable and completely poseable love doll presumably for lonely people with asthma. He told the New York Times he's currently working on a more animated doll that he hopes will have more human-like movements and even audible responses -- because if your sex partner is a simulated person, you're clearly a master communicator.

McMullen calls his project Realbotix and he's hired a team of robotic engineers from Hanson Robotics, a company that has produced some impressive humanoid robots such as the conversational, expression-reading humanoid named Han that made its debut in April.

He's also working on giving his new sex-bot its own artificial intelligence so it can respond to questions and statements while it's batting its eyes or making kissy faces at its living love master. Of course, if it gets too intelligent, it might dump its master for a sexier companion -- or the toaster.

"The hope is to create something that will actually arouse someone on an emotional, intellectual level beyond the physical," McMullen tells the Times in the video below, which definitely contains NFSW images.

We first met a sex robot -- Roxxxy, billed as the world's first -- back in 2010, and robots designed for sexual gratification seem destined to be an inevitable part of our future. Last year, author and GigaOm lead researcher Stowe Boyd predicted in a Pew Research Center survey that by 2025, "robotic sex partners will be a commonplace, although the source of scorn and division, the way that critics today bemoan selfies as an indicator of all that's wrong with the world."

Just imagine how dumb humanity will look when we're all taking selfies with our sex-bots."
